The Motorcyclists Association of the Western Cape (MAWC), will be continuing its series of events in their Safety Awareness Campaign for Bikers in the Western Cape.  Under the vision and mission statement of the MAWC the association is tasked to promote motorcyclist safety thereby which the safety campaigns are encouraged and promoted. The Awareness Campaign seeks broader recognition of motorcycles in the overall transportation mix with the objective to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents and fatalities on our local roads.

Motorcycle accident hotspots are identified and targeted as areas of concern. Following which a safety campaign is arranged to reduce the number of accidents / fatalities. The target audience incorporates both vehicle drivers and motorcyclists and aims to create an “awareness” amongst motorists and motorcyclists alike in encouraging them to “share the road”.  The principal concerns are to increase driver recognition of motorcyclists in traffic, while encouraging motorcyclists to engage in the overall safe operation of their motorcycles.

The event takes place at the identified hotspots known for motorcycle accidents.  Where motorcyclists will be conveying the message of “sharing the road” by way of a placard demonstration in a safe manner without obstructing traffics or causing any dangers to road users.  Pamphlets conveying the message of awareness will also be handed out to motorists.

All motorcyclists, irrespective of whether they ride for a club or not and even scooter riders, are invited to join in this event, as the safety of motorcyclists is of importance to all.  Traffic officials from the City of Cape Town as well as representatives from the Department of Transport will also be in attendance.

Motorists who are interested in supporting this event are also welcome and invited to come and talk “safety” while enjoying a cup of coffee on site at the Safety Gazebo.

“BY BEING AWARE, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND SAFELY SHARE THE ROAD”
